Piedmont Psychiatric Center is a multi-disciplinary psychiatric outpatient practice offering a full spectrum of mental health services. The diverse expertise of our staff allows us to treat all aspects of a patient's problem, from the biological to the emotional, cognitive and spiritual manifestations. We serve people of all ages from infants to senior citizens, both as individuals and as members of their families.
Established in 1995, Piedmont Psychiatric Center is located at Centra Virginia Baptist Hospital and is part of a broad range of mental health services offered by the hospital. In addition to this multi-disciplinary psychiatric outpatient practice, Centra Mental Health Services include Pathways Treatment Center, Bridges Treatment Center, Rivermont Schools, Adult Psychiatric Program, Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Program and Mental Health Consultation Services.
APPOINTMENTS
Appointments are required for all visits. When calling for an appointment, tell us the reason for your visit and the name of your physician so we can schedule you appropriately. If you cannot keep an appointment, please call our receptionist to cancel. Our office requires a 24-hour notice for all cancellations.
NEW PATIENTS
Our goal is to provide the best possible care for our patients. New patients may be self-referred or referred by family members, physicians, clergy members, school personnel, employers, employee assistance programs, or public service agencies.
FEES
To reduce the high cost of billing, we require payment of co-payments, deductibles and any other self-payment balances at the time of service. If you cannot pay, we request that you talk with our patient account specialist to work out payment arrangements. When calling our office about your bill, please ask to speak with our patient account specialist.
INSURANCE
Insurance policies are contracts between you and your insurance company. Our staff will be happy to help you file insurance claims. Your medical bill, however, is ultimately your responsibility. Please bring your insurance cards to each visit.
TELEPHONE CALLS
When you call your physician, usually the receptionist will take a message, and either the physician or nurse will return the call later in the day. This helps us reduce interruptions while treating patients. If you are calling for an appointment, please speak with our receptionist.
MEDICATION AND PRESCRIPTION REFILLS
Prescriptions will be refilled during our regular office hours when your medical record is available. Your physician may also request that you be seen by appointment before a prescription can be refilled. Most refill requests will need to be requested by the pharmacy. Our office requires 48 hours to process any refills. We request that you bring in all current medications each and every time you see the doctor.
EMERGENCIES
When our office is closed, a physician will be available to advise our regular patients in emergency situations. Call 434.845.9482 to reach the on-call doctor. We are not able to provide after hours care to anyone other than our patients except in extreme emergencies.
In case of a life-threatening emergency, go directly to the emergency department or call your local rescue squad.

Peter Betz, M.D.
Dr. Betz completed his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia, his internship at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and his residency in psychiatry and fellowship in geriatric psychiatry at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology in geriatric psychiatry.
Kenneth E. Fore II, M.D.
Dr. Fore received his medical degree from the University of Saint Eustatius School of Medicine. He completed his psychiatric residency at Michigan State University where he served as chief resident.
James Gallagher, M.D.
Dr. Gallagher obtained his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin Medical School. He completed his internship at John Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in internal medicine and his residency in psychiatry at John Hopkins Hospital. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology.
Michael Judd, M.D.
Dr. Judd received his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine. He completed his internship in psychiatry at the University of Virginia and his residency in psychiatry at the UVA Roanoke/Salem Psychiatric Medicine Program. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology.
Child/Adolescent Psychiatrists
Namita Dhiman, M.D.
Dr. Dhiman received her medical degree from Indira Gandhi Medical College in Shimla, HP, India. She completed her psychiatry residency and her child and adolescent fellowship at Creighton University of Nebraska Medical Centre in Omaha, where she also served as a chief fellow. Her areas of interest include eating disorders, autism, sleep disorders, ADHD, anxiety disorders and management of childhood onset of psychotic disorder.
Kara Rooney, M.D.
Dr. Rooney obtained her medical degree from Loma Linda University. She completed her residency in psychiatry and fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Medical University of South Carolina. She is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology.
