Dr. Beverly is a graduate of Virginia State University and East Tennessee State University School of Medicine.  He completed his residency at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA.

Dr. Beverly served at Darnall Army Community Hospital from 1999-2004.  He has been in private practice in Macon, GA and on Staff as Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at Mercer University School of Medicine.  He joined Central Virginia Surgery in 2009.

Dr. Beverly is Board Certified in General Surgery, and is a fellow of  the American College of Surgeons.  He is also a member of the American Medical Association, Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, Medical Society of Virginia, and Lynchburg Academy of Medicine.

Dr. Beverly is on staff at Virginia Baptist Hospital, Lynchburg General Hospital and Lynchburg Surgery Center.  His interests include general surgery, endoscopy and advanced laparoscopic procedures.

Dr. McClung is a graduate of Marshall University and Marshall University School of Medicine.  She completed her General Surgery residency at Maine Medical Center in Portland, ME, and joined Central Virginia Surgery in 2007.

Dr. McClung is a member of the Medical Society of Virginia and Lynchburg Academy of Medicine.

Dr. McClung is on staff at Virginia Baptist Hospital and Lynchburg General Hospital.  Her interests in general surgery include surgery for cancer (including breast, colon and melanoma), gallbladder surgery, hernia repair and advanced laparoscopic surgery.

Dr. McClung resides in Lynchburg.

Dr. Kittrell is a graduate of Illinois State University and Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.  He completed his residency in General Surgery at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and his Fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at University of Illinois / Carle Clinic, and joined Central Virginia Surgery in 1999.

Dr. Kittrell is Board Certified in both General Surgery and Colon and Rectal Surgery.  He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and is also a member of the American Medical Association, Medical Society of Virginia, and Lynchburg Academy of Medicine.  He serves on Centra Health’s Cancer Liaison Board.

Dr. Kittrell is on staff at Virginia Baptist Hospital, Lynchburg General Hospital, and Lynchburg Surgery Center.  His surgical interests include surgery for cancer (including colon, breast, and melanoma), hernia repair, gastrointestinal surgery, colon and rectal surgery, and laparoscopic surgery.

Dr. Kittrell resides with his wife, Dr. Andrea Kittrell and children in Lynchburg.

Dr. Guglielmetti is a graduate of University of Virginia and East Carolina University School of Medicine.  He completed his General Surgery residency at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and joined Central Virginia Surgery in 2003.

Dr. Guglielmetti is Board Certified in General Surgery, and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.  He is also a member of the American Medical Association, Medical Society of Virginia, and Lynchburg Academy of Medicine.  Dr. Guglielmetti serves on several committees at Centra Health including the Centra Foundation Physician Advisory Board and the Operating Room TRIAD Steering Committee.

Dr. Guglielmetti is on staff at Virginia Baptist Hospital, Lynchburg General Hospital, and Lynchburg Surgery Center.  His interests in general surgery include surgery for cancer (including breast, colon, and melanoma), hernia repair, alimentary tract surgery and laparoscopic surgery.

Dr. Guglielmetti resides with his wife and children in Lynchburg.

Lucius D. Clay, III, M.D., FACS, graduated from Washington & Lee in 1971. He served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army from 1971-1973. He then earned his medical degree at the University of Virginia in 1979. He completed his general surgery internship in 1980 at New York University & Bellevue Hospital in 1980 and his residency in general surgery at St. Luke’s – Roosevelt Hospital Center in 1984. He completed his fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation in 1985.

His is board certified in both General Surgery and Colon & Rectal Surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons.

Dr. Clay and his wife, Kathryn, have three children and live in Lynchburg.

Dr. Poletti received his undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from MIT in Cambridge, MA. He then served as an officer in the U.S. Navy on active duty for four years. During that service, he was on the nuclear engineering staff at the headquarters of the Naval Nuclear Power Program. After his Navy service, Dr. Poletti enrolled in medical school at MCV. While at MCV, he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Societies.

After medical school, Dr. Poletti did a residency in general surgery at MCV. During this residency, he received a National Institute of Health (NIH) two year grant to pursue basic science research in novel medications to control blood clotting, publishing several basic science papers and abstracts. He completed his general surgery training in 2000. Dr. Poletti then went to Vanderbilt University to pursue further study as a fellow in the field of vascular surgery, completing this fellowship in 2001.

Dr. Poletti came to Lynchburg in 2001. Dr. Poletti’s interests are in minimally invasive vascular interventions (as well as open surgical procedures) for aneurysms, peripheral vascular disease and carotid artery disease. He also specializes in hemodialysis access procedures.

Dr. Poletti lives in the City of Lynchburg with his wife and two daughters.

Dr. Bass was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia. He attended the University of Virginia and earned a BA in biology. He attended graduate school in the Department of Microbiology at the Medical College of Virginia and earned a Master’s degree before deciding to pursue a career in medicine. Dr. Bass attended medical school at the Medical College of Virginia and graduated in 1989. He pursued training in general surgery at the University of Cincinnati, completing residency in 1996.

After residency, Dr. Bass and his wife, Dr. Moira Rafferty worked for the Indian Health Service in Chinle, Arizona for five years. In 2001 the family decided to relocate back to Virginia and Dr. Bass accepted an offer with Seven Hills Surgical Associates. Dr. Rafferty is an internist with Medical Associates of Central Virginia. They have two children.

Dr. Bass is a Colonel in the reserves and has been on five deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Dr. Ploch was born in Lynchburg, Virginia. He graduated from E.C. Glass High School, then from the University of Virginia with a degree in Biology and a minor in English. He graduated from Ross University School of Medicine in 2000, and completed his surgical residency at the State University of New York in Buffalo.

Dr. Ploch spent three years with SUNY Buffalo as assistant professor of surgery where he practiced general surgery, surgery of trauma and surgical critical care at a Level I trauma center.

In 2008, Dr. Ploch and his family relocated to Lynchburg, joining Seven Hills Surgical Associates. Dr. Ploch is also the Medical Director of Trauma for Centra Health.

Dr. Ploch has special interest in breast surgery.

General Surgery

Dr. Alty grew up in Lynchburg, Virginia. He graduated from E.C. Glass High School in 1978, and then from Duke University in 1982 with a degree in Computer Science.  He graduated from the Medical College of Virginia (now Virginia Commonwealth University) School of Medicine in 1986 where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society.  Dr. Alty completed his surgical residency at the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals in Richmond in 1991.

Dr. Alty returned to Lynchburg in 1991 to join Drs. Harris, Teague and Gayle in the practice of General and Vascular Surgery. He hired Dr. Lynn McRoy, Lynchburg’s first female surgeon in 1996, when the name of the practice changed to Seven Hills Surgical Associates.  He hired Dr. Jeff Widmeyer,   Lynchburg’s first Board Certified Vascular Surgeon in 1998.  In 2001, he hired Dr. Lawrence Poletti and Dr. Robert Bass.  In 2005, after 14 years of practice in Lynchburg, Dr. Alty retired from the practice of full time general surgery to be a full time parent to his only son. 

From 2006 to 2013, Dr. Alty served through World Medical Mission as staff surgeon in Christian mission hospitals in Kenya, Niger, Rwanda, Cameroon, Zambia and Haiti, making eight overseas trips.  His service there included performing operations in obstetrics, gynecology, urology, orthopedics, neurosurgery, burns and plastic surgery, otolaryngology, and pediatric surgery in addition to general, vascular, and trauma surgery.  He worked part time from 2006 - 2011 providing minimally invasive care of hemorrhoids at Hemorrhoid Solutions (now Widmeyer Vein Center) here in Lynchburg.

From January to May 2014, Dr. Alty provided surgical coverage while Dr. Robert Bass served in Afghanistan on his fifth tour of duty with the U.S. Army Medical Corps.  Seven Hills Surgical Associates welcomed Dr. Alty back as a partner in May 2014 when Dr. Bass returned.  Dr. Alty has been on the medical staff of Centra Lynchburg General and Virginia Baptist Hospital since 1991.

Dr. David Cassada completed his undergraduate degree at Washington & Lee University in Lexington Virginia. He earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia.

He completed his internship in general surgery at the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine in Knoxville, Tennessee. He also completed his residency in vascular surgery and general surgery at the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine. His fellowship in vascular surgery was completed at the University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville, Virginia where he also served as the Chief Resident of Vascular Surgery.

Dr. Cassada is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Vascular Surgery.
